The Chinese Language and Culture Teaching Program of Chengdu University is under the leadership of the International Department of Chengdu University. It has enrolled international students from more than 30 countries and regions all over the world from 1988 to July 2003. Many international students have passed Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) organized by China Ministry of Education with high scores after receiving the training of Chinese language and culture for the period of half a year to three years at our University. At present, Chengdu University has become a renowned institution for teaching Chinese language and culture in Southwest China. What’s more, its teaching staff and teaching level ranks top in Southwest China and the conditions of accommodation for international students here is excellent.

As one of the national key universities directly under the State Ministry of Education (MOE) as well as one of the State “211 Project” universities enjoying privileged construction in the Ninth Five-Year Plan period, the present Sichuan University (SCU) was first incorporated with Chengdu University of Science and Technology (CUST), another national key university under the MOE in1994, and West China University of Medical Science (WCUMS), a key university directly subordinated to the State Ministry of Health in 2000. The present Secretary of the Party committee is Prof. Yang Quan-ming, and the President currently in office is Prof. Xie He-ping (academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering).

The university was originally founded at Shanhaiguan, Hebei in 1896, and it is currently located in Chengdu, Sichuan, a major city in the southwest part of the country. The University has three campuses: the main Xipu campus, the Jiulidi campus in downtown Chengdu, and Emei campus about 90 miles to the southwest of the city snuggled at the foot of the Mount Emei, one of China’s four sacred Buddhist mountains. The university offers programs at the graduate and undergraduate level to approximately 60,000 students.

Approved by the State Ministry of Education, Xihua University (XHU), a key provincial comprehensive university, merged by the former Sichuan University of Science and Technology and the former Teacher's College, was founded on April 16, 2003. In order to modernize agriculture and machinery, the former Sichuan University of Science and Technology, once defined as Sichuan Mechanical College of Agriculture, was founded in 1960. Ever since 1979, it has been a key polytechnic university of Sichuan Province . The former Teacher's College, located in Peng Zhou County , was founded in 1971, and remained in the leading post among other Teacher's College of the same level in Sichuan Province .
